Has VAR made Football better in any way?

Liverpool this time with goals ruled out and a late penalty awarded against them, but every weekend there is at least one VAR controversy, every team has been affected, an incident were VAR has to run through the footage multiple times to try and find an error, how is that clear and obvious??? A trailing arm, a hand or a players foot a few inches the wrong side of line drawn on a TV screen determines an offside and a goal ruled out, a ball kicked at point blank range that grazes the upper arm is a penalty, a player is deemed to have bought down another if he trips over his outstretched foot, because in the freeze frame 1/100th of a second before the defending player is or appears to be millimetres from the ball, yet if there was contact with the ball, no penalty!!!

Then we seem to have this ridiculous situation were if a dangerous tackle or challenge has taken place (as with VVD and Pickford), BUT someone was offside, no action taken by VAR to notify the referee, or players going down like they are shot to get VAR looking for the slightest of errors for a penalty but if nothing can be found, not even a caution for the player taking the dive.

And VAR was supposed to make it a better game…………………Has it Fuck.

It has indeed gone from arguing about crap referee decisions to arguing about VAR. Was glad technology sorted out the ball going over the line but without rule changes, as others have said, it's just ruining the game.

Shouldn't even be arguing over a VAR decision, the arguing should be with your mates in the pub after a game over whether or not you think the officials were utter bastards and bent.

VAR is utter wank, has taken half the fun out if football.

Game was fine for over 100 years without it and its now ruined the game and pushed loads of fans away.

Literally can't trust anyone who thinks it has brought anything to the game, albeit its probably the rules that are fucked more than the technology.

As a football match it was evenly fought & both teams deserved a point from a 1-1

Then VAR got involved with the buffoon Peter Bankes who made a ludicrous decision which the referee didn’t go to the screen to reject.
So it’s VAR that decides the game

In a poll for BBC Sport, only a third of football fans across the UK said they believe VAR has made football better.

The poll of 2,100 fans, carried out by Savanta ComRes, shows that while 30% of fans think it has improved the game, 44% of fans actually think it has made football worse.

The poll also shows:

36% of supporters aged 18-34 believe VAR has made football better, compared with 29% of fans aged 55 and over.

59% of fans aged 55 and over said VAR is making football worse.
Arsenal fans (44%) are more likely to believe that VAR has made football better, while 37% of Chelsea fans, 34% of Liverpool fans and 32% of Manchester United fans felt it had improved the game.

Younger fans are split on whether VAR is being applied consistently (35%) or inconsistently (33%) by referees.

Made me laugh as the goal was disallowed and the Leaping Grealish & his bunch of cunts incl John Terry left with nothing

I think one of the main problems with VAR is the rules.
Why did they at the same time as introducing VAR also change the rules?
All this crap about arms.
Arm stretched out in front of defender is off side!
Ball brushes arm goal disallowed.

Also used to be you had to impede the player, now its a enough just to see a shirt go slightly out of shape as to players go neck and neck for the ball. With the speed of the game, the refs would not see that and they didn’t need to. With VAR you slow it down and clearly see it, but its not impeding play so why is it now a foul?

The problem with offside being applied by var isn't the tech. It's the rule.

Simply put they should make it the same body part (I'd suggest either head OR foot) not a combination.

And with the application with the rest of var is the fuckwits using it and their "interpretation" of the rules.

I think it should predominantly be used by ref at pitch side, and alerted by VAR in case there are any potential fuck ups.

As with offside, its the interpretation of the rules which leads to the problems.

I'd prefer VAR to be scrapped, or heavily modified, but we are currently joint top of "the goals against disallowed by VAR" table.

And that's fair enough.

I have mentioned considering whether the stoppages are a deal breaker. Maybe they are and we learn that.

I do think football can learn from other sports about what kind of things video replay can and cannot be applied to. And how it not always the technology, but how the technology is governed, that is the problem. But just an opinion.

As far as significantly changing the game, the game has changed significantly a number of time over the years.
Eventually it is the fan that decides whether he is going to keep coming back or paying for it.

My only issue with that is that football isn't NFL or ice hockey. I've never thought the comparisons with other sports are particularly helpful, when it comes to technology, and that goes for rugby and cricket in this country which people were using to justify this kind of thing years ago.

Aside from the fact they are just different sports, those games are used to lengthy stoppages and football just isn't, historically. I'm not sure you can introduce it without significantly changing the game.

You'll always going to get times where an idiot is reviewing the footage though, even if they do shake up the rules to appease it (again).

VAR is not the problem, the problem is the lack of clarity around the rules and the idiots reviewing the footage. You watch the Football Show on Monday and Dermot Gallagher is on there explaining things and you still have arguments amongst the panel. Whether you have a fingernail offside or clear daylight you will still have borderline decisions If you need to review something for longer than 10 seconds it can't be clear and obvious. What is handball now? I don't know the rules so can't make decisions based on VAR as the guidance is unclear. The one thing they need to sort is the late flag. Fucking annoying and pointless.
